CHINESE MEDICINE
TRADITIONAL HEALING
Developed over 4000 years, Traditional Chinese Medicine (sometimes called TCM) is a system of healing incorporating both modern and ancient techniques.
An important aspect of Traditional Chinese Medicine and probably best known in the west is acupuncture.
Acupuncture is used as part of a treatment to bring the body into balance using hair-thin (disposable) needles that are placed at
specific points in the body to stimulate and heal the body's energy system.
Although there is much debate about and research into the mechanisms involved in acupuncture,
there is no longer any question in western medical circles of what has been known for centuries in China: acupuncture works.
Another very important form of treatment is medical herbology.
A skilled practicioner selects herb formulas using complex rules developed through literally thousands of years of experimentation, observation, and scientific study.
Although brewing the herbs into teas is the traditional way of ingesting them in China,
many prefer the also effective technique of using herbs that have prepared into small round pills.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is used to treat the entire range of human illness.
However, as with western medicine, not every illness is curable with Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Today in China, the following list of illnesses (in western terms) are commonly treated with Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Many of these illnesses, however are viewed in Traditional Chinese Medicine as different illnesses with different treatments.
For example, "asthma" might be casued by Lung Qi Deficiency, Kidneys Not Grasping Qi, Wind-Heat Invasion of the Lungs, or Phelgm-Damp Obstructing the Lungs.
